Fluorite is an industrial mineral composed of calcium and fluorine (CaF2). Given its extensive downstream applications in various fluorine chemicals, metallurgy, ceramics, and building materials, it is a key commodity for all industrialized countries.
Fluorspar has two different levels of products:
Acid grade fluorite – a high-purity material used in the chemical industry, containing over 97% calcium fluoride and mainly used for the production of hydrofluoric acid.
Hydrofluoric acid is an important intermediate in the fluorine chemical industry, mainly used in the production of fluorine chemical products, including refrigerants, aluminum fluoride, fluorine-containing polymers (fluororesins, fluororubber, fluorocoatings), electronic grade hydrofluoric acid (semiconductor cleaning agents), fluoride salts, etc. The fields involving new materials and new energy, such as fluoropolymers, fluorinated fine chemicals, and fluoride salts, are developing rapidly, and the proportion of consumption is expected to increase in the future.
Metallurgical grade fluorite – containing over 75% calcium fluoride. This material is mostly used for the production of iron, steel, and other metals. Fluorite can be used as a flux to remove impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus from molten metal, improving the fluidity of slag. Each ton of metal production requires 9 to 27 kilograms of fluorite.
High grade fluorite ore – containing over 65% calcium fluoride. Widely used in metal smelting, ceramics, cement production, and other industries. The production of these fields requires a stable source of calcium fluoride, and high-grade fluorite ore perfectly meets this demand. As an “industrial monosodium glutamate”, the value of fluorite lies not only in its chemical composition, but also in its strategic position as the cornerstone of fluorine chemical industry. With the rise of emerging industries such as new energy and semiconductors, the demand structure of fluorite will continue to optimize, promoting the industry to extend towards high value-added fields.
